Erminia Scarcella MD Psychiatrist
Erminia Scarcella, M.D., DLFAPA, Psychiatry-Psychoanalysis, a member of ACE Health Foundation's ACE Global Leaders of Excellence Network, earned her degree from the University of Rome, Italy, where she specialized in Neurology and Psychiatry. She moved to the USA and subsequently received her training in Psychiatry at the George Washington University and St. Elizabeth Hospital. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor at The George Washington University School of Medicine and has taught at George Washington University Hospital. E. Scarcella was Chair of International Medical Graduates of the Washington Psychiatric Society (District Branch of the APA), for which she is the founder of the Embassy Disaster Preparedness. She was the President of the Washington Society for Jungian Psychology (JSW) for 20 years.
Dr Scarcella is a Designated Physician of the Embassy of Italy. She was also the designated physician of Alitalia, the Italian airline company from 2018 to 2020. She has also been twice the President of American Society of Psychoanalytic Physicians (ASPP, Washington, DC chapter and for years, and she has been a Board member of the Consortium for Psychoanalytic Research. Dr. E. Scarcella worked for years at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Washington, DC, and then at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dr. E. Scarcella has been in private practice from 1991 and has been working as Medical Director at ALHC from August 2015 to December 2020. She has served in the Army Reserves Medical Corps, where she retired with the rank of Major. She is a Rotary member of International Rotary Club of Washington, DC for many years. Dr Scarcella is the proud recipient of the high honor of Cavaliere Della Republica of Italy.
